In 1928, after the introduction of college-level curriculum for students to obtain a four-year degree, it became St. Augustine's College.
In 2012 the school became St. Augustine's University.

The school offers degrees in broadcast journalism, criminal justice, elementary education and many others.

In 1987 St. Augustine's became the first HBCU to have its own commercial radio and TV stations, WAUG 750 AM and WAUG-TV 8.
